Dial Thermometers (several sizes) PDF Print E-mail
tn325thermoModel: thermo -  $17.99 and up

These thermometers are from my newest and ongoing supplier after carefully evaluating several different brands. These are a great value for the features you get. The most important feature is the recalibration screw on the back so you can tailor the thermometer to be most accurate in the temp range you care most about. They are all stainless and have a glass window for heat tolerance. I have both 2" face and 3" face thermometers depending on your application and I can make them weldless also. See details for more information.

Options:

  • 3" Dial Face Thermometer (Model: T325), 2.5" probe length, 20-240F range, 1% of full range +/-  accuracy, Recalibration Screw on the back. This one is mostly meant to thread into a 1/2" NPT coupling that you already have welded into your vessel.
  • You can also select the weldless option (Model: WLT325) as shown on the far right which simply requires that you drill a 7/8" hole in your vessel. Please note that these 3" dial thermometers will NOT thread into the WLSTNT kit.

  • (Model: T36), 3" face just like T325 but this one has a 6" long probe. This is the same unit we use in the LTS240 site kit. (no picture shown on this model)
  • You can also select the weldless option for the above (Model: WLT36) which requires that you drill a 7/8" hole in your vessel. It comes with the extra parts necessary to add the thermometer to your vessel without having to weld.
  • ALL 3" dial thermometers have 1/2" male NPT threads on the back.
OR:
  • 2" Dial Face Thermometer (Model: T24), 4" probe length, 20-240F range, 1% of full range +/-  accuracy, Recalibration Screw on the back. This is the exact thermometer I use in the WLST240R sight glass kit. If you need a replacement, or have purchased a WLSTNT (less thermometer) kit and would like to add a thermometer, this is the one you want.
  • You can also make this model weldless (Model: WLT24) if you wish. It simply requires a 9/16" hole in your vessel. Keep in mind the longer 4" probe length may interfere with immersion chillers and such. (note, there are no pictures showing the 2" version but they are essentially the same as the ones on the right)
  • ALL 2" dial thermometers have 1/4" male NPT threads on the back.

Which one of these thermometers will work to drill into the side of a rubbermaid cooler mashtun? Are the threads long enough on the weldless with nut and gasket ones to work?

Rich, I don't recommend installing a dial thermometer in a cooler mash tun. Every time you accidentally hit the probe with your spoon or mash paddle, you put pressure on the cooler wall and risk cracking. ;-)

I think a remote probe digital or just spot checking with a quick reading digital like the CDN I sell is the best bet.

Lars, I hadn't thought to add the weldless option to the 6" probe version but since you asked, I just added it. Thanks.

Bobby

The weldless versions add a nut, gasket and washer so it's ready to go. Just drill a hole and add teflon tape to the threads.

I want to put a thermometer in the middle of my keggle MT. Would you recommend 3" or 6"? Thanks Bobby.

I'd say that the T325 (2.5 inch probe) would be the better option just to keep it more out of harms way when stirring your mash. If you used the 6" probe you would have to make some kind of shield to protect the probe from a mash paddle.

Bought the 2" Dial Face "Winters" thermometer and thought that it was 1/2" NPT but it was 1/4" NPT. Just FYI for any other buyers. I would buy from Bobby again. Very pleased with my Keggle. 8)

When screwing these thermometers into my keggle couplers, how do I ensure they are positioned properly up and down? I feel like I'm going to break something if I keep cranking it around after it gets tight.

This store is fantastic, and the weldless sight glass kit and thermometers have been the cheapest, and easily the best options I could find!

I've been meaning to make a video on this. If you can't get it to be right side up when it tightens up, back it all the way out and add a couple extra wraps of teflon tape and try to stop on the rotation that leaves the thermo right side up but also doesn't leak. With teflon tape, it doesn't have to be all that tight to be leak free.

Just bought the 2" thermometer kit. Nice value, fast service. Got it in time for brew day. Easy to install, though for my next pot would probably get the 3" dial - would probably be a bit easy to see the finer increments.

Hey Bobby, I want to put a thermometer on my plate chiller with cam locks to measure temp before going into fermenter. Would the 2" face 4" probe work for this application and is it 1/2" thread? (based on Jeff's comment above), I would plan to put a T on the wort out on chiller with thermo on one side and camlock on the other. Thanks!
