Weldless Sight Glass Elbow Kit PDF Print E-mail

LK_medModel: LK or LP - $27

This is the flagship product for Brewhardware.com featuring a design that just hasn't been done before. This sight glass or level indicating accessory takes the guess work out of determining how much liquid is in any of your hot side brewing vessels. It is most commonly installed in hot liquor tanks to measure strike and sparge water volumes, but is also very useful in boil kettles to measure pre and post boil volumes. While weldless systems have gotten a bad rep amongst homebrewers, this design is different. When installed per instructions, the unit is 100% guarenteed not to leak the first time and any time you reinstall it (no leak reports in at least 5000 units sold). Available for either converted SANKE kegs (LK) or Straight Sided Pots (LP).

Includes:

  • 19" Polycarbonate Tubing rated to 250F. If you have a vessel taller than 20", you can specifiy a 24" length here. If you have special nees for much larger vessels, contact us for a quote.
  • Stainless Hardware
  • High Temp. Silicone Gasket
  • Stainless eye bolt for securing the tube to the top of your pot.
  • Black Vinyl Numbers for each gallon mark from 2 to 15. (5-50 liter also available, see below)

Install Requirements:

  • LK_medDrill a clean 9/16" diameter hole in the side of your HLT or boil kettle and install liquid connection hand tight, or just snug with a wrench. The weldless system is 100% leak free the first time with no teflon tape or messing around. Note, you can also drill to 1/2" and slightly file the hole just a tiny bit larger than 1/2" if you want a more snug fit. Either way, it will install fine with a 9/16" hole as well.
  • Don't forget to grab a Step Bit if ou don't already have one.
  • Drill a 1/4" hole in the top/side of your vessel and install eyebolt to hold the sight tube vertical.
  • These will NOT work in kegs that have a bulge in the sidewall, e.g. Hoff Stevens kegs.

Options:

  • You must specify if your vessel is straight sided or a converted keg. The tubing meant for a keg is threaded at a slight angle so that it remains vertical when installed into the curved bottom edge.
  • The standard calibration numbers included with this kit is 2-15 gallons. If you have a slightly larger vessel than 15 gallons, you can also add an extension strip that will add numbers 16-25 as well as 24 smaller arrows for 1/2 gallon increments below. If you would like to substitute 5-60 numbers for Litres, you must select "substitute 5-60 litres" in the dropdown below and click the "add to cart" button separately.
What kind of vessel?

Aternative Number Options

550cal

16_25calNote: Converted kegs hold just over 15 gallons so the 16-25 add on strips are not necessary in that case.

PLEASE BE AWARE that polycarbonate tubing is sensitive to long exposure times some cleaning chemicals. Read more about it HERE prior to purchasing.

Itn14brusht is also highly recommended that you add at least one 20" long, 1/4" diameter nylon brush to your order for occassional cleaning of the interior of the entire sight tube (use with water or your favorite kettle cleaning detergent). $3.25

WLSLshield2Please note that sight glass installs, into boil kettles especially, can benefit from use of a heat shield to keep the fittings and tubing from getting overheated. Overheating can lead to wort spurting out of the top of the tube or worse yet, and entire melt down. Some kettle and burner combinations can get by without a shield, but it is relatively inexpensive insurance to add one right from the start rather than incurring an additional shipping charge when you find out that you need one later. If you email us asking why your sight glass is bubbling or spitting, our recommendation will always be to make or buy a heatshield. Please click on the picture to get to the detailed page describing the optional sizes and add to cart button.

If you have a pot that is shorter than 20" tall, you may want to pick up this cheap tubing cutter ($4) if you don't already have one. It makes a nice straight cut that only requires a little sand paper cleanup. This small and affordable tubing cutter is perfect for trimming the top off any of our sight glass tubes that may extend over your pot/keg. Cutting your sight glass flush with the top of your vessel will protect it from getting snagged.

I bought 2 of these for my keggles. They are a very simple, quality design. The calibration numbers are nothing short of awesome and are very easy to read. I don't really know of any equivalent product out there, especially at this price.

MAKE SURE YOU WATCH THE INSTALLATION VIDEO, EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW HOW TO INSTALL IT! Bobby, gives several helpful tips that will make it a lot easier, and will make you say "huh, I never thought of that, but it makes perfect sense!"

Also, FYI...if you are installing this on a keg, make sure you install them at the specified height (he tells you in the video)! Since he threads them at an angle, the height you mount them on the keg wall matters. I installed mine a little too high on my keg and it made it kind of hard to level. But that's my fault for not following the installation instructions...I still very happy!

Awesome product and instruction video! Just installed and calibrated the sight glass and couldn't be happier with the product and video. This is my first keg conversion and I am sure that I will buy more as my system grows. Fair prices+ quality product+ quick shipping+ clear instructions= good business. Will update after the first brew.

Ordering number 2 for the HLT and can't wait! no more burning my hand to see what the temperature is, or dipping sticks in the water to find out how many gallons I have/need. Good product, good tutorial, easy installation!

Finally got around to drilling my aluminum kettle to put this one in. I already did the stainless steel keg and that one worked great. This one, no problems either. I used a hack saw o cut the length of the tube down to size for my kettle. Thanks much!

easy to install, looks great and will help any brewer out who wants exact measurement. I wish I had this for my first brew. I boiled off about 1/2 gallon to much. next time I'll be better prepared.

:-) I should have installed one of these a long time ago. What a great product. Easy to install. Works as advertised. I heat up all my brew water at once. I then drain my strike water into my MLT. I then keep heating my sparge water and drain it into a 5 gal cooler. I then use mt HLT for a BK. Having a site glass instead of a measuring stick makes things so much easier and accurate. I know exactly how much water went into my MLT, how much wort I collected from my MLT into my BK and how much my wort evaporated at the end of my boil.

i am just getting into all grain brewing and i knew that i wanted a sight glass to avoid having to measure and to know how much i had in my BK. i ordered 2 so i could have one on my HLT and one for my BK. i placed my order late on a friday night, so i understood that it might take longer to process my order. well, i got an e-mail that bobby had received my payment and two days later, my package arrived. i want to say that it was packed very nicely! everything is taped down to avoid breaking, and if i ever decide to expand my equipment, i will do business with bobby again. thanks!

I know companies have to make money but it's amazing sometimes how high prices can be. I just saw a weldless site guage (from a well known company) on sale for $59.95 regular price $74.95. Thanks for keeping your product at a reasonable price.

installing and callabrating was a lot easier then i had expected. Worked great! Have my hot tank high on my top-tier system and the site glass worked, never had to get on the ladder to see how much water was left.
Great Job!!

This is a great product, and a very simple and easy add-on to an existing kettle. I've been using mine on my 8 gallon Mega-Pot for about a year now and it's still as good as the day I installed it. I'd definitely recommend it. Thanks.

Great product and reasonably priced! Just did an installation on a 60-qt vollrath kettle and it looks sweet. Cut down the tube with a copper tubing cutter. Decals went on easy. Thanks Bobby!

Thank you, this sight glass worked perfectly with my keggle, once I actually RTFM and put the silicone gasket on the OUTSIDE! I was only testing with water, so no loss. Works great, and it took absolutely all the guesswork out of my volumes for pre- and post boil! THANK YOU! I already have one fellow home brewer who will be buying one of these for his boil pot.

Just got me SECOND one in the mail yesterday. This one is for my boil kettle. These are very professional looking, well made and easy to install. If anyone is concerned about the weldless products and leaking DON'T BE! I've installed all weldless on my HLT and my boil kettle and have absolutely no leaks. I have total confidence in the hardware that Bobby provides because, if you have watched any of his videos on brewing then you know he has the brewer in mind. My next purchase is going to be his refractometer. My brew days are only getting better!

This is my first site glass I ordered from Bobby. Very simple to install (WATCH THE VIDEO for all of the tricks and special hints he gives) and the number decals are amazing! I am in the process of purchased a keg to make a kettle. This will be my first stop in getting the necessary hardware. Keep up the good work!!

I am looking to install a sight glass on a 55 gallon drum, and I would need a longer length of polycarbonate tubing. Any way you can accommodate? Total height of the kettle is 34 inches.
