Description

If you use a plate chiller, you already know how important it is to keep hops out of it. You can use multiple nylon bags to contain the hops or just one of these stainless baskets. It hangs neatly on the edge of the kettle.

This unit has a 300 micron mesh which offers maximum pellet hop exclusion from the boil at the cost of less circulation during the boil which may impact utilization by 10% or so. If you use the 300 micron mesh, we recommend stirring the hops in the basket regularly during the boil.

Alternatively we will be releasing a 500 micron version (larger holes) of this unit in mid November 2016 that will allow for more wort circulation. The downside is the the finest hop particles will not be contained fully. The 500 would be perfect for using whole leaf hops or where you want to contain MOST of your pellet hop material but don't mind some fine material making it into the fermenter.

Is 300 micron the right size? August 12, 2016
Reviewer: John Henderson from Brooklyn, NY United States
I've used 300 micron screen both for containing hops during the boil, and collecting hops during recirculation during chilling.  My pump was able to pump wort into the basket faster than it could drain, which meant I had to throttle back the pump, which defeated part of the purpose of recirculation.  I'd be curious to see the what effect screen size has on utilization.  All that said, it is well made and solid.
