The Blichmann weldless thermometers use a 1/2" bolt thread on the back which is normally not compatible with threaded pipe fittings (NPT). This bushing threads on to the back using the existing weldless gasket or teflon tape and converts the thermo for use with 1/2" NPT.

My only comment and the reason for 4 stars as opposed to 5 is that this looks like it will be a major pain should I ever want to remove it.  This is a Blichmann design choice and not a reflection on Brewhardware.
