This recipe is a very approachable balanced beer with a moderate malt backbone to support a firm bitterness and full hop flavor. While not a clone recipe, expect this one to land in the realm of DFH 60 minute, Bell's 2 Hearted, or Lagunitas IPA.
13 pounds of grain combined with an array of hops makes for an easy drinker.

This beer will do well with either a direct pitch of Omega West Coast or a pack of dry US-05. If you prefer Wyeast 1056, we recommend making at least a 1 liter starter. Select your preferred yeast as an add on in the accessory list. If you plan to bottle condition, be sure you have 4 ounces of priming sugar. You can purchase that as an accessory as well.
For emphasis: This kit does not include yeast, it must be selected from the accessories list on the right.

Assuming 72% efficiency into the boil kettle:

Other acceptable modifications to this recipe:
  • Add one extra pound of 2 Row malt to boost ABV by .5%
  • Add one ounce of Amarillo or Simcoe if you want to dry hop in the fermenter to boost hop aroma.

Exactly as described, old school WIPA.  I'm not a hazy fan and it's a blast from the past.  I think if I would rebrew it, I'd drop the munich, but that's just preference.  I got the fine crush and my gravity shot up by 10 points, meaning I probably need to replace my mill.

Made this using WLP 001 yeast,  and it turned out fantastic.  I had a few pints at home over a couple of weeks, then brought it to a neighbor's house where there were young and old drinkers. Everyone loved it! Not too bitter, fresh taste... it was gone in about an hour and a half!
