These 304 SS hex nipples are machined out of hex bar stock rather than cast blanks. The result is a much smoother fit and finish including the interior bore which is more sanitary than our budget cast hex nipples.
Note that we offer hex nipples in 3 varieties; Economy cast, Premium, and Premium Loose. The item you're buying on this page is the PREMIUM LOOSE HEX in 1/2" NPT (which measures approximately 13/16" across the threads and has a hex flat to flat measurement of 15/16").
This is all explained in excruciating detail below so that there is no confusion.
The Premium Loose Hex has slightly smaller thread diameter than the NPT standard specifies which allows for a more full meshing with the female threaded counterparts. This exposes less internal threads to your liquid flow and overall makes for a more compact assembly once everything is threaded together which may be desirable if you're assembling a large manifold or whatever. Please be aware that due to this under-sizing of the tapered threads, the fit in SOME female threaded fittings may be looser than you would expect where the hex makes contact with the female fitting just prior to the threads tightly meshing. In those cases, sealing will require several extra wraps of teflon tape than you would typically use on standard NPT fittings but it WILL seal. This occasional loose fit is a compromise in the design and not considered a defect. If you want a more typical fit for NPT fittings, see out regular premium hex version as opposed to this "loose" version.
As seen in the picture, you can also make the seal with snug fitting orings rolled down the threads and positioned against the shoulder of the hex. This oring is the same as the one we sell for the BLQD QDs which you can find as an accessory on the right -->
