These Stainless Steel fittings are a hybrid between a traditional NPT fitting and a quick disconnect. The female NPT side is cut a little loose so it will fully thread on to any 1/2" male NPT or NPS fitting to allow the included captured silicone O-ring to seat and seal.

This particular fitting has a straight 5/16" hose barb on the other end which will accommodate 5/16" ID stiff hoses or even 1/4" ID as long as they are stretchy or can be heat softened.

Long story short, this is functionally the same as a 1/2 NPT female x 5/16" hose barb but instead of using teflon tape and needing to be tightened on with a wrench, this uses a gasket and can seal well hand tight. It is also more sanitary as your liquid will never touch the threads.
