When you want to turn a kettle's welded thermometer port into a whirlpool return port but you find that it's a half coupling that can't be accessed internally, Spincycle REVERSE to the rescue.

This particular instance of this solution, deemed "compact" because the tube that inserts into the kettle is very short and custom welded to kick the flow into the sidewall of the kettle with only 1" of penetration. This is helpful for folks that want to use a large basket for grain in a single vessel brewing system.

The custom tube is inserted into the front of the half coupling and the nipple gets threaded all the way in. Now you're left with 1/2" Male NPT threads to thread a ball valve on. The tube diameter is 5/8" and fits all the welded half couplings we've tried it on, but there's always a possibility that a kettle manufacturer used something odd. Just measure and make sure a 5/8" tube would fit through the smallest spot.

Yes this is a pricey little gadget but we're building them by hand and it takes time to get it right. This will add a few days processing time to your order as TIG welding jobs do stack up.

Note: getting the side tube outlet to face either left or right horizontally is a little tricky since NPT threads tighten when they feel like it and your welded half coupling was exactly indexed. We prefer to use the included oring to face seal to the coupling. If the outlet doesn't come to rest horizontally on your first try, wrap the threads with some teflon tape and rely on thread meshing to come to rest in the correct orientation. Trial and error with varying quantities of teflon tape will yield ultimate success. We have faith in you.
