Description

Black IPA is one of those love it or hate it styles and we happen to love it when it's done well. The malt backbone is pretty sturdy with some medium caramel sweetness but very little roast. That's just there for the color and light chocolate undertone.

Now, when it comes to hops, we steer well clear of tropical, peach, stone fruit and intense citrus that you'd otherwise love in a hazy. We're sticking to pine resin, wood, earth, and mild citrus but in overall impact, it's coming in like a freight train or whatever hyperbolic metaphor you prefer but the finish is not harshly bitter. There's just a harmony between the light roast and the pine focused hop flavor.

This beer will do well with either a direct pitch of 2 packs of Omega Labs West Coast I, White Labs WLP-001 or a 2 packs of dry US-05 or Cellar Science CALI (select it as an add on in the accessory list). If you plan to bottle condition, be sure you have 4-5 ounces of priming sugar. You can purchase that as an accessory as well.
