Description

When your batch sizes exceeds 5/10 gallons, it begins becoming impractical to drop an oxygen wand into the fermenter. Enter IN-LINE oxygenation!

Add oxygen to chilled wort as it travels to your fermenter, with a clear view of the transfer. This 1.5" Tri-Clamp inline oxygenation assembly combines a compact instrument tee, removable 0.5-micron stainless diffusion stone, stainless check valve, and serviceable sight glass.

The instrument tee's shortened branch positions the diffusion stone in the passing wort. Fine pores disperse the oxygen into small bubbles, while the downstream sight glass lets you observe wort movement, color, clarity, and visible gas bubbles. Oxygenation at the start of fermentation supports yeast growth when required by your yeast and fermentation process.

The removable stone and Tri-Clamp connections make the assembly accessible for cleaning, inspection, and replacement of individual components. The tee and stone adapter are 304 stainless steel; the sight glass uses 316 stainless steel, borosilicate glass, and internal silicone seals. Two EPDM gaskets seal the assembly's external component joints.

Included Accessories / Bill of Materials

  • 1 × TC15TEEINSTRUMENT — 1.5" TC instrument tee, 304 stainless steel
  • 1 × TC15XMFLFFL — 1.5" TC adapter with external 1/4" MFL and internal 1/4" FFL
  • 1 × OXYGENSTONEMFL — 0.5-micron stainless diffusion stone with 1/4" MFL
  • 1 × CHECKVALVEMFLFFL_SS — stainless inline flare check valve
  • 2 × TC15CLAMP — 1.5" TC clamps
  • 2 × TC15GKEPDM — 1.5" TC EPDM gaskets
  • 1 × TC15FLOWSIGHT — three-piece 1.5" TC sight glass

Installation and assembly

Install after your wort chiller and before the fermenter so oxygen is introduced into cooled wort.

  1. Attach the stone's male flare connection to the female flare connection inside the TC adapter, using the appropriate seal for the supplied fitting.
  2. Fit the adapter to the tee's short branch with one included EPDM gasket and clamp.
  3. Attach the sight glass to the downstream end of the tee with the remaining included gasket and clamp.
  4. Attach the check valve's female end to the adapter's external male flare. Gas must travel from the check valve's male end toward its female end and then into the stone.
  5. Connect your regulated oxygen supply to the exposed male flare inlet using suitable gas tubing and fittings. Support the assembly and hoses, and check all connections for leaks before use.

The two included clamps and gaskets assemble the unit itself. Additional clamps, gaskets, and any required adapters are needed to connect the inlet and outlet to your brewing system. Nominal 1.5" TC connections have an actual flange diameter of approximately 2".

Operation and care

Use a regulated oxygen supply suitable for the cylinder and application. This 0.5-micron stone is not suitable for a low-pressure aquarium air pump. Supply pressure must overcome liquid backpressure and resistance through the check valve and stone, while remaining within the ratings of every connected component.

Adjust oxygen delivery to suit your wort flow and fermentation requirements. Visible bubbles confirm gas delivery but do not measure dissolved oxygen. Wort temperature, gravity, flow rate, and gas delivery all affect the result; use a dissolved-oxygen meter when a verified oxygen concentration is required.

Clean and sanitize the wetted components before use and clean promptly after transfer. Avoid touching the porous stone. Occasionally remove the stone TC assembly and drop into a clear container of water and apply the oxygen pressure to observe dispersion of bubbles from the stone. If it appears that it is becoming clogged, remove the stone from the TC adapter and boil the stone for a few minutes. If a simple water only boil does not help, try a 30 minute soak in hot PBW solution (dissolves organic clogs). If that also fails, try the same soak in double strength starsan dilution (dissolves mineral based "beer stone" soil).

The check valve helps resist liquid backflow but does not replace proper shutdown, cleaning, inspection, or pressure control. Shut off the gas when transfer stops, and depressurize before loosening any connection. Protect the glass from impact and sudden temperature changes.

Use oxygen-compatible gas equipment, keep oil and grease away from oxygen connections, and follow your oxygen supplier's handling instructions. This assembly is intended for wort oxygenation before fermentation, not oxygen addition to finished beer.

Oxygen cylinder, regulator, gas tubing, gas-line connector, and external installation fittings are not included.

The gas input port is a male 1/4" flare fitting. Connecting a hose requires a FFL swivel barb. Better yet, you can also pick up one of free flowing ball lock to FFL adapter fittings so you can put a gas ball lock on your oxygen line for easy connections/disconnections. See the accessories below.
