How the map works

Need to brew combines having a use for beer with the limitations of buying it. No use for beer places you at the left edge, even if commercial beer is expensive or unavailable. Otherwise, the stronger of availability and price barriers moves you right, scaled by how much having beer matters to you.

Engagement combines enjoyment of brewing, curiosity and willingness to pursue improvements. Enjoyment carries half the weight; curiosity and extra effort each carry a quarter. Choosing the middle answer to all three places you at the vertical center: enjoying brewing while being satisfied with drinkable beer.

This is a conceptual conversation starter, not a validated psychological assessment or a measure of brewing skill. Money spent is not a proxy for passion. Your position can change with your circumstances, interests and priorities.
