Irish Red is admittedly a blast from homebrew past. Back in the 1980s, everyone wanted to clone their favorite edgy crafty beer that just showed up in the U.S. (Killian's Irish Red) via new distribution rights through Coors brewing. By today's craft standards, this is a relatively boring beer but it's really a pleasant easy drinker. It has some richness from Maris Otter base malt but is also slightly roasty, smooth and creamy somewhat reminiscent of a dry Irish stout, but without the ominous opaque blackness.


12 pounds of grain, mostly Pale Malt combined with Kent Goldings and Fuggle Hops makes for an inexpensive and quaffable drinker. This beer will do well with either a direct pitch of Omega Labs Irish Ale, White Labs WLP-005 or a pack of dry US-05 (select it as an add on in the accessory list). If you plan to bottle condition, be sure you have 4-5 ounces of priming sugar. You can purchase that as an accessory as well.
For emphasis: This kit does not include yeast, it must be selected from the accessories list on the right.
