Description

This is the first false bottom specifically designed for Brew In A Bag process. When you use a mesh bag in a pot, whether it's directly fired on a burner or heated electrically, you want to keep the bag off the bottom. Typical homebrew false bottoms have really small holes and cut off the free flow that mesh bags are know for. Another less desirable choice is a steamer rack or tray that is found in kitchen shops, but none of those are stainless steel.

We've redesigned the support structure by using 1/8" thick, 1/2" wide 304SS flat bar that is rolled into a ring and further supported by an X-shaped cross brace. The legs are made of M8 metric bolts and are threaded into five nuts that are welded to the underside of the support structure *Note that units measuring smaller than 17" in diameter only ship with FOUR legs as it is plenty strong. This modular leg style allows for just about any height you need just by changing out the length of the bolts.

OPTIONS: You have the choice of several lengths during purchase, electable in the drop down menu. Note that if you select "no legs", the screen still has the welded nuts that will accept legs in the future. Without the bolt legs, the screen will sit about 1/2" off the bottom supported by the bottom rolled ring. While it uses a max of 5 legs, you can use it without the center leg in case your heating element is in the way (we only supply 4 legs for sizes under 17" diameter). The heights listed in the drop down refer to how much clearance you will get between the bottom of the pot and the bottom of the FB support structure.

Based on listed specs on popular pots, this 13" model should fit:

Bayou 1310 13.25"
Bayou 1430 13.5"
Blichmann G2 10g 13.5"
Amcyl 10g 13.5"
Megapot 1.2 10 14"
Spike 10g 13.8"

Of course the fit is not tight, but as long as the bag doesn't have several inches of slack, it should not get pulled down into spaces smaller than 1/2".

4 of 5 Perfect for BIAB Process, but cleaning is an issue November 5, 2021
Reviewer: Roger Weber from Brandon, FL United States
This false bottom table is perfect for the BIAB process.  Gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for cleaning concerns, but if I was to make something this would be what I would do despite the cleaning issues for this SS table wire construction provides the least amount of obstruction minimizing a stuck mash.  SS bolts can be swapped out to establish that perfect desired height that might even change during your brewing evolution.

5 of 5 Fantastic! May 16, 2021

Bought this as I now line my MT with a Brew Bag and didn't want to risk a stuck mash using my Spike FB (2 vessel, kettle rims setup).  Worked great!  Next brew, I'm going to tighten the gap on my mill to .025 from .030 to try to gain a bit more efficiency.

4 of 5 Great idea September 18, 2020
Reviewer: Nicholas Turner from Hanford, CA United States
Like it, but my legs weren’t long enough to fully clear my heating element in my spike 10gal kettle. I got the 3.5” legs. They’re just bolts so I’ll just pick up some stainless 3.75” or 4”. I bought this just to keep my chiller off my heating element. Great ideas as usual. Just wish the legs were located closer to the edge so they sat on the step of my kettle.

5 of 5 Amazing craftsmanship January 31, 2020

I didn’t anticipate it fitting around my BoilCoil in my 10 gallon Blichmann BoilerMaker, it fits well enough, I needed the 5” bolts for it. I believe it’ll work and if not, I’m so impressed with how well made it is, I’ll make sure I find a use for it. I would definitely buy from Brewhardware again.
