We're always trying to find the perfect compromise between portability and cost when it comes to dispensing our kegged beer outside of our brewery. If you go REALLY small, like the 12 or 16 gram cartridge doohickies, they are ultra compact but the per unit cost of the CO2 is astronomical. Then there's the impracticality due to how many cartridge changes you have to go through. A 5 pound cylinder is a great value on gas, but the tank and regulator are not particularly portable.

We finally found the line. The Sodastream style CO2 cylinders win in compact size, light weight, but just enough gas to get you though a long weekend getaway without any tank changeovers. Regarding fill cost/value, even if you use retail tank exchanges, the per unit cost is much lower than disposable cartridge solutions. It's even better if you get yourself a filling coupling to fill them directly off your larger 5 or 20 pound tanks. Just make sure you're getting the threaded style cylinders and not the newer QD style.

This regulator has been in testing here in the shop for a few months, enduring several tank changeovers and a lot of pressure adjusting and it's a solid piece. The gauge has a 0-30 psi range so even though it's relatively small, you can still easily discern 5 vs 10psi without a magnifying glass.

The stock option is a 1/4" hose barb on the output but we can also change it out for a 1/4" MFL for a small upcharge. That will make the output compatible with a lot of different connections including, but not limited to, swivel flare hose connectors, DUOTIGHT FFL to push adapters, etc.

The total portable serving setup is completely up to you, but one that Bobby recently used was FOUR of the OXEBAR 2 gallon PET kegs in a square rolling cooler with the Sodastream and regulator setup right in the middle. Once you get out of the regulator, you can use a series of Duotight Tees to split the EVA Barrier tubing to as many gas QDs as you need. He then used the MICRO picnic faucet assemblies for each of the kegs for the beer out. That's four unique beers pouring in an ultra compact configuration that goes from trunk to picnic grove in one trip.
