Description

This version of the TC element is 2100 watts at 120 volt (plus or minus about 100 watts). Pulling approximately 17 amps, this is about the highest wattage you can run on a standard 20 amp circuit (with room for a pump and other incidental accessories like lights). At 9" long with a partial foldback, this element is low watt density so you should not have any scorching issues. 2250 watts appears to be the minimum power needed for a reasonable boil in 6- gallons of wort. You won't beat any speed records getting there but it will reach a boil and maintain it.

GENERAL:
These new elements are pretty slick. The traditional way to get an element into a TC port is to use an adapter such as our Hot Pod ETC which then had to be hardwired to a cord. These Ripple TC elements don't have screw in bases but are welded right to a 1.5" TC flange. Not only that, but the electrical connection is made by integrated NEMA L6-30P blades. You can twist an L6-30R cord end right on. This gives you the ability to disconnect at the pot rather than drag the cord around. While the L6-30P plug configuration is a standard usually used for 30 amp 240 volt, these 120 volt elements use it for manufacturing consistency.

The power requirement of this element is only 120 volt and 20 amps so they can be plugged in to SOME 120 volt outlets in the house. You will do this by making up an adapter cable that has a regular 20 amp plug on one side and an L6-30R on the other end. You have a few options here. The L6-30R Cable we show in our accessories list has the female on it that connects to the element and then you can wire the Nema 5-20 plug onto that. The downside is that the wire is only 5 feet and it's oversized for 20 amps. The other way to do it is to grab whatever length of 12/3 SJEOOW cable you need and wire a Nema L6-30R on the element end and one of the 5-20P plugs on the other end.

You will need a 1.5" TC port on your kettle and we offer several different ways to get that done; weld ferrule, solder ferrule, and weldless. These are available separately. The L6 cable is also available as a separate item.

Element length is approximately 9" Long to the TC flange. If you are using it for RIMS, it will fit in either our 12" or 18" RIMS tubes.

Everything is 304 High polish stainless steel.
These are made in China. Warranty is 6 months from date of purchase and does NOT cover damage due to dry firing. These elements must be submerged in liquid any time power is applied.

It is extremely important that you consult with an electrical professional for advice or wiring help. Under no circumstances should these be used without proper wiring, ground fault circuit protection, over current circuit protection. We are not licensed electricians so we cannot provide wiring advice.

After years of experience with these elements, we have concluded that the connectivity between the L6-30 prongs and the mating female receptacle is a common point of failure as oxidation from humid environments begins to degrade conductivity. The best long term solution we've come up with is the use of a light coating of a product called Conductive Assembly Paste. It is expensive and not usually available in tiny packages but we've done the repackaging locally. We now include a 1mL syringe of this paste with the purchase of this style of element. Note that we only include a single 1mL tube for up to 3 elements purchased.

My heating element came in on time plugged it in and work perfectly. Now I can get my brew up to temperature in no time and i have much better control over the heat vs open flame with the PID matched up with the 2200 w  element.

5 of 5 If you are limited to 120v you need this! December 5, 2019
Reviewer: Kurt from Lumby, BC Canada
Conducted a field trial of this TC 2250w element yesterday. 16 gallon kettle(wrapped in reflectix), 7 gallos of water, temperature in my garage was 2.9 degrees Celsius. Heating rate was roughly 1 degree per minute when I was not recirculating and about 0.8 when I was. That time gives me a chance to get stuff done between events!
