Description

These elements are pretty slick. The traditional way to get an element into a TC port is to use an adapter such as our Hot Pod ETC which then had to be hardwired to a cord. These Ripple TC elements don't have screw in bases but are welded right to a 1.5" TC flange. Not only that, but the electrical connection is made by integrated NEMA L6-30P blades. You can twist an L6-30R cord end right on. This gives you the ability to disconnect at the pot rather than drag the cord around.

You will need a 1.5" TC port on your kettle and we offer several different ways to get that done; weld ferrule, solder ferrule, and weldless. These are available separately. The L6 cable is also available as a separate item. Again, this element does not include a gasket, clamp or TC port for your kettle. They are available separately.

Element length is approximately 14.5" Long to the TC flange. Please note that the length does vary across different production runs so if your kettle is going to be a tight fit, call ahead and we'll measure our current stock for you. We are not responsible for return shipping costs if you find that it doesn't fit.

Watt density works out at just around 75 Watts per Square Inch. We are often asked about LWD vs ULWD and we're yet to find any technical documentation that defines exactly what this means and what technical governing body decided what the WPI has to be for specific names. What we can tell you is that these elements do not scorch wort. It's the lowest watt density you can get for a 5500 watt element that also fits into kettles as small as 13-14" with a large TC ferrule welded in.

Everything is 304 High polish stainless steel.

It is extremely important that you consult with an electrical professional for advice or wiring help. Under no circumstances should these be used without proper wiring, ground fault circuit protection, over current circuit protection. We are not licensed electricians so we cannot provide wiring advice.

After years of experience with these elements, we have concluded that the connectivity between the L6-30 prongs and the mating female receptacle is a common point of failure as oxidation from humid environments begins to degrade conductivity. The best long term solution we've come up with is the use of a light coating of a product called Conductive Assembly Paste. It is expensive and not usually available in tiny packages but we've done the repackaging locally. We now include a 1mL syringe of this paste with the purchase of this style of element. Note that we only include a single 1mL tube for up to 3 elements purchased.

3 of 5 Scorching December 28, 2022
Reviewer: CJ B from Rochester NY
Brewed 3 back to back beers of different styles in one day. Washed my equipment with a hot PBW soak for 30 minutes between each batch. First two went great no issues, on the third I noticed a burnt smell during my 90 minute boil but continued on. After I transferred the beer from my kettle to my fermenter my element was BLACK with a crust on it. Added PBW to my kettle with water and kept at 170 for 2 hours and it did nothing to the element. Had to scrub it by hand for about another hour straight and still haven't gotten all the black crud off the element. Before this I was very pleased with the element but now I'm considering buying a different one.

Brewhardware.com response: There is nothing magical about one element vs another at these high wattages. I would need more details about the batch and your process to make some estimates on what happened. We have sold over 10,000 of these elements as they are pretty much the defacto homebrew standard. I personally brew with this element once a month and don't have scorching problems. Contact us and we'll talk more about your process.

I had a bunch of questions for Bobby about the loss of performance of my existing element. He answered the all thoroughly and quickly…and I got this new  one. It’s works great and the service at BH is awesome!

Only ordered a second because I inadvertently dry-fired my element. Works perfect!
