We found one of the most crushable beers with complex flavors that will satisfy craft nerds and hipsters alike. This exact recipe just scored Bobby 44 points at the NJ State Fair in 2025 for a first place ribbon. Then it went on to the best of show judging where it landed in second place. Shortly after, it took another gold at War of the Worts in Eastern PA and took a 3rd Best in Show.

The best way to describe a Dark Mild, maybe, is that it's a session strength English Porter. One of the challenges with a beer that is below 4% ABV is bringing body and malt flavor and combating a weak, watery vibe.

We achieved it with a blend of the highest quality malts and hops from England.

We list all the acceptable yeast options as accessories on the right. One pack of OMEGA, Whitelabs, or dry varieties will be fine.

The winning 44 point version used Omega British V (OYL-011) which is the Boddington strain. Another version of the recipe scored a high of 41 with the Fuller's Strain, Omega OYL-016 or WLP-002. How to decide? If you're in a hurry, the Fuller's strain will drop clear extremely quickly after fermentation. If you have a little more time to let the beer condition (a few weeks), the Boddington strain is just a touch drier and clean in the finish. Honestly, it's a toss up. Other yeast options include Timothy Taylor (Yorkshire Square) and if you really need a dry yeast, the Windsor strain has approximately the correct attenuation. The recipe is untested with dry yeast so.....
