Model: RIMS - (out of stock)
Here's the situation. We have a new RIMS unit coming soon that is designed specifically for its purpose. We sold plenty of kits based on the 1.5" NPT stock fittings but it just didn't feel right. Brewhardware is about making things better. We can't show you the pictures just yet but: Shiny, compact, sanitary, integrated in/out ports, insanely reasonable price.
May 2013 update: We initially expected to see production units arriving in the shop by now (mid May). We were on target for a while but as we were testing our prototype units, we found areas for improvement that we didn't want to hold off for "version 2". Obviously this delayed production a bit. We were left with a decision between getting a product out for people who are anxious and waiting and doing it right the first time. We didn't want to see early adopters getting the shaft.
New ETA: First week of JUNE. In the meantime, here's some more info:
The main units will be based on polished 304SS sanitary tubing with triclover ends. Both the element mounting side and RTD/thermocouple ends will clamp on to the main body with silicone gaskets and will easily come apart for thorough cleaning (without having to take threads apart, etc).
The input/output flow ports will be 1/2" male camlock on the first production units. We may make hose barb and triclover options later, but most people have the camlock system and frankly, it's the best bang for the buck anyway.
If you're planning ahead, we recommend a liquid tight RTD/thermocouple with a 4" long probe and 1/4" NPT thread.
Given a 4" long temp probe, there will be two length options available. One supports a max element length of 8" and the larger one will accomodate up to a 14" element.
The element end of the units will come in two different options. The economy version does not provide an electrical enclosure for the element. Connections may be protected with an included piece of heat shrink tubing and grounding can be done with a crimp/solder on ring terminal. The premium version will have a polished stainless enclosure with cord strain relief and hidden grounding terminal.
Finally, there will be two integrated mounting attachment points that will allow you to connect the unit to a brew stand or anything else you can think of. You provide the M8 bolts.
Pricing is still being worked out, but the premium assembly will end up being at least $50 cheaper than the closest competitor that we're aware of.
For now we have no plans of restocking the NPT parts because buyers will regret not having waited for the new units described above.
This kit has all the basic stainless parts necessary for your RIMS tube project. It is based on 1.5" NPT fittings which is large enough for a foldback element without touching the sides. Comes with ONE roll of teflon tape. Choose from three different lengths based on your element and RTD probe lengths. Type 304 Stainless Steel.
