Description

Hazy Session Pale Ale is for people who want to enjoy a couple pints in the middle of the day without needing a nap on the couch. The grain in this recipe is closely based on our award winning NEIPA with a healthy dose of oats and other protein rich grains to keep everything silky and hazy.

The hop character of this particular recipe is citrus-dominant with full tropical reinforcement with an all late hop with El Dorado and a Citra dry hop.

This beer will do well with Whitelabs London Fog or Omega Brit V (OYL-011) and in both cases a single pack should work for a 5-6 gallon batch. If you'd like the flavor to lean a little more to the peachy side, Omega OYL-052 would work.
The closest dry yeast would be Verdant and you'd only need a single pack.

For emphasis: This kit does not include yeast, it must be selected from the accessories list on the right.

If you plan to bottle condition, be sure you have 4 ounces of priming sugar. You can purchase that as an accessory as well.

We have some recommendations about building a water profile below, but even if you don't know what your water source is, it can't hurt to add 2 grams of Calcium Chloride to your mash water to help soften up the mouthfeel. This isn't included in the kit, but you can buy a small bottle of it as an accessory.

Let's have a real talk about this style of beer. It's not "beginner" easy. You have to do a lot of things right all the way through to prevent damaging the beer with oxygen exposure. Generally the best way to maximize success is to sneak the dry hops into your fermenter as quickly as possible and getting it sealed up. If you can, purging the headspace with CO2 afterwards will help. Keg the beer using oxygen-free transfers. If you have to bottle condition, do everything in your power to reduce splashing and oxygen exposure (one idea is to use a 5 gallon carboy for your bottling tank and get bottles capped as soon as possible.

Water: If you want to be meticulous about this, we start with distilled or RO water and add calcium chloride and gypsum to about 150ppm Chloride and 60ppm Sulfate. If you must use your tap water, please at least add a small pinch of Potassium Metabisulfite to remove the chlorine. Even if you don't know what your water source is, it can't hurt to add 2 grams of Calcium Chloride to your mash water to help soften up the mouthfeel. This isn't included in the kit, but you can buy a small bottle of it as an accessory.
