Never before have you been able to get a dual stage, pre-wired digital temperature controller like this for less than $120. At a THIRD of that price it's an absolute steal. A dual stage controller means that you can plug both refrigeration and a heat source in to hold your fermenting beer in a very precise temperature range. Of course, if you live in an area with distinct seasons, there will be times where one of the stages will not engage, but in times of ambient temp fluctuation, you can't beat a controller that decides to heat or cool all by itself.
You'll need a refrigerator that will fit your desired fermenter and if you want to make use of the heating function, you'll need a heat source that can either add heat to the inside of the refrigerator's airspace or directly to the fermenter like our fermwrap. The temperature probe that is part of this controller can either be secured to the outside of your fermenter or slid into any of our thermowells.
The probe diameter included with the controller is approximately .2" or 5mm (and 2" long) which will fit into either our small or large tube thermowells. It fits the smaller tube with a precise fit so that would be preferable in a horizontal install. If you install the thermowell through the lid of a fermenter, the large tube version will be fine as long as you bottom out the sensor in the end of the thermowell.
