If you have an externally facing 1.5" TC port on your pot but nothing on the inside to connect to, this press fit unit is a no brainer for getting a diptube or whirlpool return installed. There are other methods on the market but they add bulk to the outside of the kettle by pushing the valve several inches away and require extra sets of clamps and gaskets.They're also twice the price.

This unit is essentially a custom machined piston sized to fit inside the bore of a 1.5" TC port (approximately 1-3/8") with a relief cut in the side to direct the flow at 90 degrees to the direction of the TC port. It has two oring grooves that contain silicone orings. When a thin coating of keg lube is applied to the orings, you can press the piston into the TC port on the inside of the pot and it will hold whatever position you leave it in.

Uses:
The primary intent for this piece is a very compact and sanitary whirlpool return. If you have a case where you do not have the need to rotate the direction of the outflow back into the kettle while the kettle is full, this is the cheapest and most compact way to do it. Of course, you can rotate the device from inside the kettle in between uses, but there is no means to rotate it while "in use" from the outside.

A lesser obvious use would be to install this into a boil kettle that has an offset bottom drain. You can decide how much dead space to have. At the lowest setting, you can rotate so that the opening is facing the kettle wall and it will reject SOME trub since the suction is limited to the side rather than towards the trub pile. You can leave it partially sticking up so that maybe a 1/4 or 3/8" of wort is not drained out. Then you can pull it out for the CIP cycle.
