These 304 SS hex nipples are machined out of hex bar stock rather than cast blanks. The result is a much smoother fit and finish including the interior bore which is more sanitary than our budget cast hex nipples.

Note that we offer hex nipples in 3 varieties; Economy cast, Premium, and Premium Loose. The item you're buying on this page is the PREMIUM HEX in 1/2" NPT (which measures approximately 13/16" across the threads and has a hex flat to flat measurement of 15/16").

This is all explained in excruciating detail below so that there is no confusion.

The Premium Hex has a standard NPT thread cut which will mesh into most 1/2" NPT female pipe fittings within the typical 3-4 full revolutions. A couple threads will still be visible as shown in the picture above. As well all NPT joints, some level of PTFE tape wrapping is required for not only a good seal, but also to lubricate the hard stainless steel threads to prevent galling, or deformation welding. The front face of the fitting is nice and flat, as well as relatively broad which makes it a good surface for a gasket seal, such as in the case of Blichmann Engineering quick connect fittings or our "cool touch" series of connectors. Both of these fitting options are INCOMPATIBLE with the economy style hex nipples but they DO work with either of the premium hex options.

As seen in the picture, you can also make the seal with snug fitting orings rolled down the threads and positioned against the shoulder of the hex. This oring is the same as the one we sell for the BLQD QDs which you can find as an accessory on the right -->
Note that the use of an oring on the hex shoulder is often not possible with these standard premium nipples and only the premium LOOSE is guarenteed to make it into the female side far enough for this to be possible.
