Description

This is a thick and chewy stout. The huge malt and chocolaty backbone perfectly balances against an oak tanin and boozy bourbon note.

The kit contains 20.5 pounds of grain, primarily Crisp Maris Otter for rich flavor, 3 ounces of hops, and a 4 ounce bag of toasted American oak chips.

This beer will do well with either White Labs WLP001 or Omega OYL-004 built up in a 2 liter starter or two packs of re-hydrated US-05 (select these as accessories in the accessory list). If you plan to bottle condition, be sure you have 4-5 ounces of priming sugar. You can purchase that as an accessory as well.

For emphasis: This kit does not include yeast, it must be selected from the accessories list on the right.

Don't forget to add your preferred yeast, priming sugar, and bottle caps if you need them. This recipe also calls for 4 fluid ounces of Bourbon for soaking the oak chips in.

This beer will need to age in a secondary fermenter with oak chips for at least 2 months for mellowing and flavor development. Don't rush it.

Equipment Capacities Required:
If you use a cooler mash tun, you'll need a 10 gallon. This will not fit into a 5 gallon cooler.
If you use Brew In a Bag, a 10 gallon pot will JUST make it.
