This hex nut has a hole in the back and is used to hold barbed tailpieces to 1/2" NPT hex nipples (or any other 1/2" NPT male threaded fitting). This nut IS compatible with hose barb tailpieces, but it will NOT thread on to a SANKE coupler or beer faucet shank. Look for a "beernut" for that.
