These Stainless Steel fittings are a hybrid between a traditional NPT fitting and a quick disconnect. The female NPT side is cut a little loose so it will fully thread on to any 1/2" male NPT fitting to allow the included captured silicone O-ring to seat and seal.
This particular fitting has a straight 5/8" hose barb on the other end which will accommodate 1/2" ID hoses as long as they are stretchy like our 1/2" ID silicone tubing. This option provides the maximum flow since the barb is a full 1/2" ID. It also doesn't require a hose clamp
Long story short, this is functionally the same as a 1/2 NPT female x 5/8" hose barb but instead of using teflon tape and needing to be tightened on with a wrench, this uses a gasket and can seal well hand tight.
