I use this with my fermonster to remove concerns with sanitizer and oxygen suck-back during sampling from the spigot and cold crashing.

I need to mark the bag spigot positions to make it fool proof.

5 of 5 Simple, effective, works great March 20, 2024
Reviewer: MaxStout from Minneapolis, MN
I ordered the 2.5 gal Cold Crash Guardian a few months ago, in anticipation of brewing some lagers. I had previously used a collection system that uses canning jars, but I always had problems with leakage from gaskets losing seal.

I set up the CCG after racking 5.25 gallons into my 7 gallon Brew Bucket inside the ferm chamber. Shortly after fermentation went active the bag completely filled with CO2. The excess CO2 bubbled away into a jar of Starsan. When I cold-crashed the brew down to 35F, about half the CO2 in the bag was drawn back, with not a bit of liquid being pulled up from the blowoff jar. The check valve did what it was supposed to do.

Another point I like is the bag can be positioned where ever I want it, unlike using clunky jar systems. And unlike using toy balloons, the bag on this is thick and sturdy.

Glad I opted for the larger bag--the 1 gal bag would not have had enough capacity.

A very inexpensive and easy to use system if you have a fermenter able to cold crash.

It is very easy to use, it works, and it is cheaper than trying to make it yourself.  all the parts could be purchased on Amazon, but you would actually spend more than if you just buy this product.

5 of 5 Works Great!! March 5, 2023
Reviewer: Steve Walis from Manitou Springs, CO
I first tried to make something similar using a Mylar balloon and lots of tape.  It looked ugly! Although it sorta worked, it didn't have a 1-way pressure valve so therefore it required a lot of monitoring when inflating or deflating.

This is a MUCH BETTER solution and comes with everything you need.  The price is quite reasonable.  It is also, simple to setup and use.

The words On & Off on the valve were a little hard for me to see once inside my fermentation chamber, so I colored the sides of handle either Green or Red with a magic marker.

5 of 5 Clever and effective tool November 8, 2022

Starsan isn’t a very tasty addition to a well made beer! To avoid suck back during cold crash I’d been removing the blow off tube and covering the fitting with a clean towel-also not a good thing to do to beer.
This gadget solved my cold crash problems and was very easy to set up and install. I swap out my blow off tube with the Commander when fermentation is almost done and it fills up with Co2, then deflates back into my fermenter with the drop in temperature. Simple and effective! Buy it.

5 of 5 finally a painless transfer!! September 21, 2022
Reviewer: Robert Paxson from Rockledge, FL United States
I have been battling clogging of my transfer tube to keg with hoppy/dry hopped beers for a long time.  I do CO2 transfers and repeatedly had to break seal and introduce oxygen to do a manual auto siphon transfer.  GRRRR.
Now with the Cold Crash Guardian, I was able to get all the hop floaties to drop clear and transfer from fermenter to keg without any issues!
Thanks Bobby and CCG!!

5 of 5 Cold crash July 28, 2022

Worked good. Bag did not inflate much probably due to end of fermentation.
Carbonating keg now. Can’t wait to try it
