Description

This porter is packed with flavor but has a smooth finish. This is a great base beer to use if you plan to play around with other flavors such as Coconut, Hazelnut, Vanilla, Chocolate or Coffee.

YEAST: This beer will do well with either a direct pitch of Omega West Coast or a pack of dry US-05. If you prefer Wyeast 1056, we recommend making at least a 1 liter starter. Select your preferred yeast as an add on in the accessory list. If you plan to bottle condition, be sure you have 4-5 ounces of priming sugar. You can purchase that as an accessory as well.
For emphasis: This kit does not include yeast, it must be selected from the accessories list on the right.

Assuming 70% efficiency into the boil kettle:

  • Add one extra pound of 2 Row malt to boost ABV by .5%
  • Add 4oz of Cocao Nibs to add to secondary fermatation to turn the beer into a chocolate/vanilla porter.

5 of 5 Add some Vanilla extract August 31, 2022
Reviewer: Robert Pritchard from Bound Brook, NJ United States
I've made this twice by adding either Madagascar or Tahitian vanilla extract.  I'm sure any variety would do fine.  This is a very solid recipe - you can't go wrong! It's one of those where you take the first sip and go... whoaaaa.
